The Vaughn Monroe Orchestra

Category: dances

The Vaughn Monroe Orchestra was founded in 1940 by vocalist, trumpeter and composer Vaughn Monroe. Though most famous in the day for sentimental ballads, the band featured some of the best swing arrangements and instrumentalists of the day. Boston’s own Dan Gabel has been chosen as the new Musical Director of the band. For this unique swing dance, Gabel has revived many of the swinging instrumentals from the early 1940s, many of which were never recorded. As part of a fall tour, the Vaughn Monroe Show makes a stop at Boston Swing Central to play for their favorite audience: dancers.
The band features 18 instrumentalists, plus the Moon Maids vocal group, and featured vocalists Elise Roth, Craig Robbins, and comedian Steve Gags. Don’t miss this exciting piece of Boston history and great swing music!
